NB shooting suspect caught after driving by police station

According to Commander of the North Bergen Detective Bureau Lt. Frank Cannella, a shooting occurred Saturday afternoon in the area of 61st and Meadowview Ave.

Cannella said that a 31-year-old male from North Bergen sustained two shots, one to his arm and to his chest, around 3:30 p.m. on June 6.

The alleged shooter has been captured. He is a resident of Miami, Fla,, said Cannella. Cannella would not release why the man was in North Bergen.

After the shooting, North Bergen Police released a description of the vehicle the perpetrator was allegedly driving. That was when Guttenberg Police Officer Joseph Keselica spotted a Mitsubishi pickup truck with matching plates passing the Guttenberg Police Station on 69th Street at 4 p.m., said Guttenberg Police Captain Joel Magenheimer.

Keselica stopped the driver and alerted North Bergen Police, who then took the suspect into custody.

Cannella said that the victim went to Palisades Medical Center, but was not taken by police or ambulance. He would not release how the victim arrived at the hospital, but said he was treated and released.

He also said that North Bergen Police successfully recovered the weapon that was allegedly used in the shooting, a 40 caliber Glock.
