BREAKING: Cammarano elected mayor of Hoboken - but by how much?

Young attorney Peter Cammarano appears to have edged out challenger Dawn Zimmer in Hoboken's mayoral race, as of today. The county board of elections had to count more than 200 provisional and absentee ballots to get the final numbers after Zimmer won on the machines Tuesday night. There were also more than 700 absentee ballots counted that Tuesday night, giving Cammarano a lead at that time.

However, it still appears that Zimmer's slate of three council members will take their seats on the nine-member council.

If today's numbers stand and are not challenged by the Zimmer campaign in court, Cammarano will be sworn in on Wednesday, July 1.

Cammarano is in the lead by approximately 160 votes.

Typically, the Hoboken campaign with the bigger or stronger organization is able to secure more absentee ballots in advance of an election. While absentee ballots may have been Zimmer's undoing this time around, she was able in her initial council run two years ago to obtain more than her then-challenger Chris Campos. Campos' campaign at that time was managed by Cammarano, so it appears he has learned from the result.

700 paid canvassers is from the NJ Elecs that Peter failed to get poste before the election. There are 70 pages of paid canvassers for May 12.

Odds are Peter does not release his expenditures and contributions until after the period to challenge this election is over.

Peter had 700 paid canvassers on May 12, likely many more on June 9. In a town of 40,000 thats ridiculous. Smells of bribery. I'd like to see the correlation between being a paid canvasser and absentee votes (a vote you can check before its cast)

At the very least the canvassers shows how Peter would govern. I heard he already offered many people government jobs. Buying friends and votes is NOT good government!
