The campaign of Mayor-Elect Peter Cammarano sent this release today:

Peter Cammarano is the new Mayor-elect of Hoboken! Mayor-elect Cammarano edged out challenger Dawn Zimmer in Hoboken's mayoral race. This morning, the county board of elections had to count more than 200 provisional and absentee ballots to get the final numbers. The final results concluded that Mayor-elect Cammarano won by 161 votes.

“I am grateful to all the people of Hoboken,” said Mayor-Elect Cammarano at an impromptu press conference outside of Hoboken’s City Hall. “I want to extend my sincere appreciation to my opponent, Councilwoman Dawn Zimmer for her outstanding campaign. I look forward to working with all the members of the City Council as we work together to move this great City forward.”

For more on the campaign, see this weekend's Hoboken Reporter and check this spot for updates.

Dawn will become President. For the fist time in my 25 years of living here we have a true reform Council for the first time. They will agree eye to eye on almost all of major issues confronting Hoboken. The biggest complaint is that the Council is dysfunctional. Not any more. Dawn and her allies have the next two years to prove me right. I know they will.

Congrats to Cammarano! It is probably time to just get along and move on.

Let's face it. Cammarano won fair and square according to the rules of Hudson County politics. Zimmer knew about the absentee ballot scam, but her opponent played his cards much better. It would be nice for Hoboken citizens to uncover and eliminate the absentee shenanigans once and for all, but that would be like uncovering hundreds of thousands of fake asbestos claims brought against companies by unethical tort lawyers and their bogus doctors. It would require digging deeper and putting in time and effort. Who would do that?

Well, there was one strong willed Texas judge who actually dug deeper and found most asbestos claims against one company were from just one doctor who was falsely diagnosing tens of thousands with a disease they never had. He was paid millions by the tort lawyers bringing the lawsuit. Even so, the tort lawyers never suffered any consequence in that case and made hundreds of millions in the few dozen other cases that never got investigated. Instead of going to jail they get to become rich. Cammarano gets to become our Mayor-Elect.

It would be nice to see justice done, but don't hold your breath. This is Hudson County after all.
