A source very close to Peter Cammarano confirmed that the mayor will deliver a resignation letter to Hoboken City Hall by 9 a.m. Friday. As of now, they are not planning for there to be any press conference, the source said.
Some time afterward, Council President Dawn Zimmer, who lost to Cammarano in last month's runoff election by a mere 161 votes, will be sworn in as acting mayor.

With Peter's resignation ending what many hoped would be a promising tenure as mayor we're all, both long time residents and newer residents, going to have come to together if we want to see our city's course improve.
Long time residents bring perspective and strong community relationships. Newer residents bring ideas that have been tested elsewhere and a diversity of history. Both side's views are valuable and should inform public policy.
I hope and believe Mayor Zimmer will be open to ideas no matter where they come from, be they supporter or past opponent. To steal a great line, Hoboken is surrounded by insurmountable opportunity. It's true one of our most valuable assets, the waterfront, was traded away by past mayors and councils for very little but Hoboken is more than just the waterfront. We have a thriving community, incredible intellectual capital, and very strong revenue base.
I hope that our mayor and council will leverage our strengths for the good of both old and new Hoboken. I've been as critical as anyone of past practices but I'm open to working with anyone who loves Hoboken and wants to see it thrive, not for their benefit alone but for the benefit of our entire community. Goodnight guys, hopefully tomorrow will bring a better day.
