HOBOKEN -- A Hoboken resident named David who posts on the Hoboken Tax Revolt website said yesterday that he applied this summer for the open Public Information Officer job at Hoboken City Hall, but Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer never followed up. David said that this was hypocritical, as Zimmer has announced that she will seek resumes for city positions rather than relying on cronies, as past administrations may have done.

Some say she has still hired cronies (see the cover story in this weekend's Reporter for that and other political notes), but others dispute this.

David says that Zimmer called him personally before Labor Day weekend to see if he was interested, then never called back after that.

David writes:

3. Several email exchanges later and a call from Dawn Herself gave me hope.

4. Spoke to Dawn about setting up a interview.

5. NEVER HEARD BACK AND THE POSITION IS REMOVED FROM THE WEBSITE.

6. I EMAILED ONE LAST TIME, STATING THAT I WAS CONSIDERING WORKING FOR A CAMPAIGN AND DID NOT WANT HIS TO INTERFERE WITH THE PROCESS.

NOT EVEN A CALL BACK!!! OPEN GOVERNMENT-I DON'T THINK SO!

Zimmer supporters on the site (who are numerous) pointed out that David is working for Frank Raia's mayoral campaign.

After a few more responses, someone wrote to David, "Maybe she doesn't want a Public Information officer who doesn't know the difference between your and you're, and who doesn't know where to place commas. Your post is all about sour grapes--dude."

Oh, snap!

Another responder suggested: "One possibility: Zimmer may have decided to suspend the hire until after Nov. 3rd, for any number of reasons, considering her time now is divided between governing and campaigning."

young bryan is a 'confidential aide.'

does that include public information?

we won't know that, because it's confidential!

Isn't Dan Bryan the public information officer Zimmer hired? He worked on her campaign.

So the story is wiseguy working for another campaign, tries pull a fast one to trip up Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer then whine and lie about it on the internet to try to help his candidate.

Very happy he is not on Hoboken's payroll. Hope he never will be. LOL

Yet another reason to vote for Dawn Zimmer on Tuesday, Novemeber 3rd.

I support her too. But I don't KNOW her, and all of the people she hired are people she knew already. That said, I still think she is the best candidate of the bunch.

I think the real question here is, why was she looking for a public info officer when the city has two? IS she going to fire one of them or not? It's a legit question. Hobo or dancing rudy, do you know more than i do? havent seen muc h in the reporter about that.

How do you define crony? If you mean supporter, I have supported her and have been involved in her campaign, at least peripherally, since her city council races and I do not know any of the people she has hired. Also, I am not interested in a government job, just good government.

reformer, you would have had no problem with this story if it was pro-zimmer.

give me one person zimmer has hired or appointed who is not a crony. just one qualified person who sent her a resume.

thought not."

I've no complaint about this Hoboken Reporter blog article. It does give all the basic facts, though I thought it worth pointing out the pretty fair number of posts the guy made for one candidate before describing how he's a disappointed job seeker with the current Acting Mayor, struck me as funny, mainly. And I guess that's how it strikes most people, regardless of the truth (at least as he sees it) of the guy's seemingly earnest statements.

And, a lot of internet shills would flog one candidate's talking points like that, and never admit they had any personal situation that figured into it, that's Hoboken politics 101. So there's a positive aspect to telling your whole story, I guess. My whole story is no connection to any of these people personally or professionally, just a taxpayer, and Zimmer is the best of available choices for a taxpayer IMO, not saying she's anywhere near perfect. Some Raia boiler plate talking points plus 'Zimmer didn't call me back': not too convincing a reason to change my mind.

Dancing Rudy, comments like yours can only be described as "uncomfortable". I liken your post to the experience of having peanut butter stuck on the roof of ones mouth, driving in wet clothes, or having the hiccups for 12 hours. You just want it to over as soon as possible.

PS - YOUR facts are inaccurate. You are stirring up activity based on inaccurate information, therefore your critiques hold no merit. Dance OFF Rudy and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I actually have posted on here before, and I've never posted on Hoboken Revolt, though I do occasionally read it, as well as the others. None provide a balanced discussion of issues, and unfortunately printing this stupidity on here makes this site no better, and sadly the current course will result in poor financial returns to the HR. An opportunity exists to both make money and perform a real public service. I hope the HR will see the light and seize the opportunity, because there is a real need.

Mr. Liebler - you are a very fine web designer. You did a wonderful job with both Mr. Cammarano's website and with Mr. Raia's. But the fact that you were not interviewed for a job that's not been filled is plain and simply not an open process issue, and claiming it is one is incredibly silly. Zimmer has not hired a friend or supporter for this position, she has hired no one. If tommorow she hires an unqualified boob who donated to her campaign without interviewing any body else, then tomorrow this would be a story.

But today, its a story about a guy who's mad because he wanted a city job he did not receive. And that's simply not newsworthy.

David is a very talented guy. The only people who lost out here are the residents of Hoboken. He would have been an outstanding Public Information Officer.

It absolutely says in the HR post that David works for Raia. It is a fair post and I think we are smart enough to know what is going on, I still think it is interesting that he applied for the job and I am glad to see this posted for discussion.

Rudy writes: I believe this is a misguided attempt to stir up activity on a blog that has not so far caught on, rather than bias.

Rudy why have you not posted here before? Maybe you are part of the problem because you only post on sites with rumors. Have you posted on any of the news here? Or do you just post on the revolt site with its soaresbashing and masonbashing?

I'd like it if the HR blog can do both, post news and post items for discussion. Thats what a good news blog does. i notice you did not complain when they posted dean kempts thing. Now that they posted something ineteresting but it doesnt benefit dawn, we hear you crying from the rafters.

For the record:

1. The blog I posted on Hoboken Revolt about not being called back or contacted by Dawn is 100% accurate. She does not have an open process and is only hiring her loyal fans, supporters and annoying bloggers.(see recent director appointments)

2. I was a volunteer and never paid by the Cammarano campaign. Check the election report.

3. I am on the Frank Raia team because he is the only candidate qualified to manage a $100MM budget-Dawn can not even produce one!

4. I never said anything negative about Dawn, nor did I say I disliked her. This is all BS from Dawns blogging bullies trying to spin this story-nice try.

5. I never said I was Mad about not getting the position. What I said was "I am disappointed that Dawn (who called me) could not follow through with the interview-if in fact this was a real open process. Obviously it is not as she is only hiring her friends and supporters.
« DancingRudy wrote on Saturday, Oct 24 at 06:52 PM »
David Liebler, the "resident" making the complaint, was a well paid consultant for Peter Cammarano and is now a well paid consultant for Frank Raia. His story is silly on its face. The gist of his complaint is that Dawn Zimmer owes him a phone call and he is mad because she didn't offer him a job.

The Hoboken Reporter has always seemed pretty objective to me - the most objective source our town has. Given that the HR is certainly aware of Mr. Liebler's employment, both past and present, I was truly astounded to see this up here as if it was worthy of discussion.

I believe this is a misguided attempt to stir up activity on a blog that has not so far caught on, rather than bias. Hoboken needs an online forum that provides real news and encourages serious discussion. It is unfortunate that so far the HR doesn't seem to understand this, and instead is stooping to trying to create artificial controversy by reprinting transparently silly posts from other blogs.

This is a guaranteed way to make sure that this site never evolves into something relevant, and that would be a shame because our town sorely needs something better than we have.

I saw it...

they guys obbviously a raia shill but its still fun to read.

Gee, there are disgruntled municipal job seekers under Acting Mayor Zimmer, what a scandal...

And the article doesn't seem to mention that most of the guy's posts at Hoboken Revolt are political pitches for Raia. Then somebody asked him, hey why do you dislike Zimmer so much? and he actually answers, because I didn't get a City job! Pretty amusing.

AFAIK when you apply for a job and the company (or town I guess, I've never applied for a municipal job) didn't personally approach you first, and you never hear back, that means you didn't get the job, and you go on to the next opportunity. If instead you use that as the reason to campaign against the people who didn't hire you, at first saying it's over issues, then admitting you're pissed because you didn't get a job, other people will probably consider you a clown.

author of this article: "What do you think? Comment below."

I think that this story is a bunch of BS and should not be sold as "news". It represents cheap campaign propaganda of the sort that completely discredits this website as an impartial source of news for the Hoboken residents.

As for the "applicant" for the Public Information Officer position, he should just get over it already. If Zimmer made any mistakes in this at all, then it would be to have called this applicant in the first place. Just look at his writing! Is this somebody who is qualified to undertake PR work for the city of Hoboken? I don't think so!

"Several email exchanges later ... gave me hope." Nice English!

"... about setting up a interview." Nice grammar!

"... AND DID NOT WANT HIS TO INTERFERE WITH ..." His who? What?

Also, is the excessive use of locked caps supposed to smooth over the lack of communication skills?
