SECAUCUS -- There was no surprise that Councilman Michael Gonnelli swept the Secaucus mayoral election, since his only opponent, former Mayor Dennis Elwell, resigned in July after his arrest in an FBI corruption sting....

However, it is a surprise that Secaucus voters rejected Elwell's Democratic allies, including incumbents, and instead voted for the allies of Gonnelli, a Secaucus Independent.

Gonnelli now has a majority of allies on the Town Council, and will go from being a critic of the administration to the person in charge. Read the Secaucus Reporter this weekend for implications and election analysis.

The vote apparently shows disapproval of the Elwell administration's decisions in the last few years. Give us your opinion below. Why did Elwell's Democrats lose?

The results in each ward:

1st Ward, Robert Costantino beat Dawn McAdam

2nd Ward, John Bueckner beat Frank Trombetta

3rd Ward, William McKeever beat John Reilly

Who would have thought that the kid in Kindergarten in 1960, my friend would grow up to be the new Mayor of Secaucus? There are a lot of people who are proud of what you have accomplished Mike.

You have your work cut out for you. Time to get busy.
