JERSEY CITY – Downtown Jersey City Council member Steven Fulop says he is exploring a run for mayor and has begun to build a team for the 2013 election.

Although the election is is over two and half years in the future, Fulop said in an email to potential supporters: “It is important that we start the process now, because the political organization in Jersey City has a tremendous advantage in infrastructure and fundraising. There's a reason people refer to it as a machine.”

The frequent critic of Mayor Jerramiah Healy has launched a website called www.stevenfulop.com and has asked for help identifying residents who might be willing to run with him as council candidates and provide the city with “a new generation of leaders.”
