To the Editor:

On Thursday, April 7, Horace Mann School held its annual spring concert under the direction of Margaret Pepe, the best music teacher by far. Every concert that Mrs. Pepe directs is ambitious and outstanding, but this year's spring concert was exceptional. The concert featured over 130 musicians from grades four to eight who performed with skill, pride and spirit.

The concert included the girls' choir, The Tigerettes: the boys' choir, Mann Up; the HMS concert band; the HMS orchestra; the beginning band; the string ensemble; beginning strings; and a clarinet quartet. The Bee Sharps, under the direction of Lydia Megale, also performed at the concert with Mann Up. Putting the Bee Sharps and Mann Up together was a great idea.

Mrs. Pepe's creativity and ambition motivated the young musicians. Mrs. Pepe's charisma, expertise, and patience guided our students to work hard and strive for success. She is the reason our students attend music classes early every morning and practice every day. She is teaching our students not only to love and appreciate music, but so much more.

The students at HMS are lucky to have Mrs. Pepe as their music director and even luckier to have her as a wonderful role model. She is truly an asset to our community. Thank you, Mrs. Pepe. I can't wait to hear the graduation band!
