
HOPING FOR A CURE – Weehawken residents on “Team Hope & Cure” finished the 2011 Revlon Walk/Run for Womens’ cancers last Saturday, raising over $4,000. The group gave special thanks to all who donated to their cause, including NY Waterway, which donated round-trip ferry tickets to the team to New York City and accommodated an early departure from Port Imperial so they could be on time for the walk.
Apparently suicidal Weehawken cop under investigation
A Weehawken police officer who may have attempted suicide last week is reportedly under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office in a matter related to his employment as a police officer.
According to a report on northjersey.com, the investigation began at the local level and was referred to the Hudson County Prosecutor on the same day the officer ingested the drugs.
On April 29 it was reported that a Weehawken police officer was found in and out of conciousness on Campgaw Mountain in Mahwah after a friend became concerned that he had taken a dangerous mix of non-prescription medications.
The 42-year-old officer was the subject of a five-hour search after police tracked pings from his cell phone. His car was in the camping area.
The friend reportedly told police that the 22-year police veteran had taken Tylenol PM, aspirin, and Nyquil.
Elks to sponsor bus trip to Atlantic City
Weehawken Elks Lodge No. 1456 Special Children’s Committee will be sponsoring a bus trip to the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City on June 26. The bus will leave the Lodge promptly at 9:30 a.m. and will leave Atlantic City at 6 p.m. The donation is $40, with $30 cash back from the casino. Continental breakfast is included. Special Mother’s Day Walk with the NJMC and BCAS
On May 8 at 10 a.m., New Jersey Meadowlands Commisison and the Bergen County Audubon Society will hold their third annual Mother’s Day Walk at the Ridgefield Nature Center in Ridgefield.
The free, two-hour walk includes a walk around the 5.4 acre center (once the home of the Great Bear Bottled Water Co.), and a visit to Skeetkill Creek Marsh in Ridgefield, with a stop to see the Monk Parakeets on the way.
