BAYONNE -- Wood Group GTS, of Houston Texas, was awarded the operations and maintenance contract for the Bayonne Power Center located in Bayonne.
Wood is expected to provide mobilization and startup services before taking on full responsibility under the seven year contract awarded in early June.
The Bayonne Energy Center (BEC) is an environmentally-advanced gas-fired electric power plant located on previously vacant property in the heavily industrialized Constable Hook area on Hook Road. It will operate using eight Rolls-Royce Trent 60 gas turbines that will enable the facility to supply the New York electric grid through a cable run under New York Harbor. The plant is expected to be fully operational by spring 2012.
The power generating plant will use existing water lines to bring gas into the site, local officials said.
