NORTH BERGEN AND BEYOND -- A wrongful death complaint has been filed in Superior Court of Hudson County in connection with the January 16, 2011 passing of 87-year-old Modesta Alvardo-Vega, a former resident of the Harborage Nursing Home in North Bergen. The complaint stems from an incident in which a nursing home aide was captured by videotape on a "granny cam" allegedly striking her.
The camera had been placed by relatives of Alvardo-Vega who suspected that she was the subject of physical abuse. The aide was not, however, charged with her death.
