WEST NEW YORK -- Last week, residents debated an ordinance in West New York that would have the effect of forcing a restaurant, Son Cubano, to close earlier on weekends. Neighbors in the luxury condos on the waterfront have complained about the noise, according to Mayor Felix Roque.

The ordinance passed, but the restaurant did have its supporters at the meeting. A gentleman posted a video of the protest on Youtube this week. It can be watched below.

As a Port Imperial Resident, a proud supporter of Son Cubano Restaurant and attendee of the 11/21 Town Hall meeting, I am appalled by the disrespectful, unprofessional behavior of our Mayor. For those of you not present this video is a tell all for his unacceptable behavior. There were children present as the Mayor felt it necessary to get his point across cursing and disrespecting those in support of Son Cubano Restaurant.

The residents of Port Imperial that have been here since the beginning are liars if they can say that they did NOT openly discuss with other residents how much they looked forward to Son Cubano opening as we stared at their vacant space for over 2 years.

There are approximately 175 condo units in both Grandview I & Grandview II giving pre-construction buyers and/or after plenty of options as to where their residence would reside. You could've chose to face River Rd. You could've chose to face the Hudson, You could've chose to face the GW. You did not have to choose directly above retail space. The select few residents of Grandview I & II who have named themselves the "Son Cubano Action Committee" are destroying this community and destroying the value of the waterfront, not Son Cubano Restaurant. Google Son Cubano Restaurant, all you see is negativity and hate "up the hills vs. waterfront" You're starting a war. A war that a lot of your neighbors don't want. You think Son Cubano is destroying your property value?? YOU ARE! Where will Mayor Roque be when you try to sell and no one wants to live here because of the 'cancer' as Mayor Roque would say, YOU are causing! The remaining vacancy of retail space from other establishments pulling out, that's because of YOU! Will Mayor Roque buy your condo when it doesn't sell? I've never witnessed such disrespect to a family and establishment. Those select few of you bullying and harassing your waterfront neighbors with endless e-mails, flyers under the doors, petitions and meetings in 11 months never tried, or arranged to directly speak to the owners of Son Cubano. How many meetings have you all had against Son Cubano, yet not one group meeting with the owners of Son Cubano about how to work together? Carol Duran is being called out in a nj.com article for saying she wouldn't choose to raise her family here...she is right, residents of Port Imperial chose their condo locations, just like she and her family chose the vacant retail location within the community for their business but she chooses to live in Leonia. Life is about choices, we make good ones and bad ones. Roseland chose to allow Son Cubano a 20 year lease. Get used to Son Cubano restaurant being at 40-4 Riverwalk Place.

As a grandview residence, I don't understand why they are complaining of this so called noise from son cubano when the true noise is coming from our unit neighbors . The walls/ceiling of the units are paper thin and we can here the loud jumping and foots steps of our upstairs neighbor every minute of every day! The building contractor/management should have installed better noise proof walls.
