In response to the “Message from the Mayor: Perspectives on rent control” (BCN, Dec. 7, 2011), should Mayor Smith wish to avoid a special election on his rolling-repeal-of-rent-control ordinance, he well knows how to do so: Have the City Council repeal the ordinance within 20 days of the City Clerk’s certification of the sufficiency of the Committee of the Petitioners’ referendum petition.
The ball is in the mayor’s court.
