LAST YEAR -- Some see Hoboken's St. Pat's Parade just as a party destination. These girls were spotted on Washington Street during last year's parade, lugging boxes of beer uptown. Was no one else around to help these sweet lasses hoist?

The Hoboken St. Pat's Parade is both fun and controversial. The mile-square city holds the event earlier than other towns each year so that they don't have to compete for the best bands and participants. That also makes Hoboken a party destination for young people on that day, with bars opening early and revelers filling the streets. Last year, to keep order, police doled out fines of up to $1,000 for alcohol-related offenses.

Controversy aside, the proud long-time celebration of Irish culture will kick off this year on Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m., marching down Washington Street.

The fundraising party will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church on Sunday, Feb. 22. And the annual mass will be held at 5:30 at OLG on Saturday, Feb. 28.

Show your Irish pride!
