HUDSON COUNTY -- The appearance of the New York Giants in this year’s Super Bowl had the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders up in arms at the Jan. 26 meeting over the fact that the Giants’ and Jets’ football teams reside in New Jersey, and the Red Bulls soccer team is located in Hudson County – yet, all three teams still use New York as part of their name.

Freeholder Bill O’Dea has proposed contacting freeholder boards and other governmental entities from around the state in making a united push for a name change so that New Jersey is part of these teams’ names.

“Hudson County taxpayers funded the building of the Red Bull stadium parking lot,” O’Dea noted. The stadium is located in Harrison.

New Jersey Giants Quarterback Eli Manning lives on the Hoboken waterfront with his family.

Anyone who know these teams will also know they play in New Jersey. If Harrison, NJ wasn't well known across the country before, they are now. Maybe they should've tried hard during the negotiations to gain this concession at the beginning, but it seems ridiculous to ask for it now. New York sells, not New Jersey.
