Holding the elections in November may have increased voter turnout (typically only 12 percent of registered voters cast ballots in Secaucus), but all school board members wanted to keep the election in April.
Gov. Christopher Christie signed legislation into law on Jan. 17.
Other Hudson County municipalities are deliberating the timing of their own school election. The change can happen either by a school board resolution, a council resolution, or by asking for voter approval via referendum.
