Dear Editor:
I write this letter regarding the horrible fire that occurred on January 18 at 21st Street and Bergenline Avenue. I offer great sympathy and condolences to the family who lost both a father and husband during this terrible incident. The loss of this resident is felt by the entire community.
My heart remains with the families who lost their possessions and endured such a traumatic experience.
I wish to offer my gratitude to the numerous residents and businesses throughout the region who donated food, clothing and monetary support to the fire victims. As tragic as this incident was, it was encouraging to see the community come together and uplift the local and hard working families who were displaced.
Just as we have done on many occasions, our city acted as an extended family and lent a helping hand at the makeshift shelter of Jose Marti Freshman Academy. The fire victims may have been uncertain about where they would live in the coming weeks, but they were certain that they had the support of the community.
As evidenced by our recent efforts, I am certain that we will always prevail in the face of adversity or disaster.
Sincerely,
Brian P. Stack
Mayor
