I work at Theodore Roosevelt School in Weehawken. Today I joined our 5th and 6th graders to watch the inauguration of Barack Obama.
The children cheered enthusiastically and loudly after he said “So help me God.” It was exciting to see the looks on their bright, shining faces as they intently listened to the Inaugural Address of our new President and applauded at the most significant times during the speech.
Fifty years ago, another young President, John F. Kennedy, set out in his inaugural address a call to service that inspired my generation. I hope that President Obama’s words resonate in this generation’s hearts and minds as President Kennedy’s did in mine.
