To the Editor:
When I go out every day, it is heart-breaking what I see. I see a number of people with dogs, especially the ones with the neck leashes, and the way they are yanked by the owner is horrible. There is yanking and there is neck-breaking yanking. I think these neck leashes should be outlawed and just the body harness should be used.
The dogs, it seems, cannot enjoy their walk, and just let dogs be dogs. If they want to stop and smell, they get a neck-breaking yank. If they do not act just the way you want them to, another neck-breaking yank. I think if a person simply has no patience, they should not own a dog. They feel pain like everyone else does. They just don’t complain about it.
The adoption pet mobiles should do a background check on who is adopting the animal. I have seen highly excitable dogs being paired off with people with no patience. That is a deadly combination and unfair to the animal. I am sure you will agree.
Pitbulls are so misunderstood and have gotten a bad rap for years. They are trained by the owner to attack and when they do, they are considered dangerous and put to death. It’s a no-win situation. And by the way, doesn’t Rachael Ray own a pet pitbull, Booette? Go figure. They are not born vicious.
And lastly, there should be surprise spot-checks on the animal shelters before it’s announced on the local news on all the abuse they discover that has been going on for years.
Animals give undying love, they are great listeners, and they don’t complain. Treat them well.
