ATHLETE AWARDS – The Bayonne Cal Ripken Baseball League recently announced its fifth annual Scholar Athlete Award winners. The award is granted in honor of former major league player Cal Ripken Jr., for whom the league is named and who holds the major league record of playing in the most consecutive games. To win the award, children must have perfect attendance in school throughout the year, achieve honors in all their classes, and not miss any Cal Ripken games all season. Pictured is Alex Lambos, student at All Saints Catholic Academy, who played for M.J. Desmond’s; Michael Nolan, student at Henry Harris School, who played for Verve; and Vincent Calderone, student at All Saints Catholic Academy, who played for A Plus Custom Ts. For their outstanding accomplishments, each boy will be honored at an awards dinner in November, as well as awarded a $100 Modell’s Sporting Goods gift card.
