Dear Editor:

This letter is in response to the article printed in your August 12 issue about the Animal Life Savers, Inc. organization and the work they are doing to help lessen the stray animal population. I applaud Elainne Samman and her mom, Barbara Bellino, in their efforts to get a TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) program adopted in North Bergen. It is sorely needed and I would urge the Mayor and the Town Spokesman to re-evaluate their positions on this issue and become TNR friendly.

There is most definitely a stray/feral cat problem in North Bergen. I see them on a daily basis and I talk to other residents who say the same thing. It is so difficult to get people to adopt these stray animals and if we allow them to continue to reproduce unchecked then the situation can surely only get worse. It is truly the humane thing to do for the animals... especially with winter right around the corner. Let's do something to save future generations from a life of starvation and suffering.

Sincerely,
Annette Schiffer
North Bergen, NJ
