A funeral mass was offered Aug. 31 at St. Francis Church in Hoboken for William Byrne, known to most as ‘Candy’, 76. He passed away suddenly at his Hoboken residence Aug. 27. A proud Army Veteran from 1955 until 1957, Bill was a retired Hudson County Sheriff’s Officer. Candy will be missed by many friends as well as his family who survive him and who he thought so much of. They are his five nieces, MaryAnne Walsh, Karen Lesko, Janet Khun, Amy Pommerencke and Debbie Byrne; one nephew, Bobby Byrne; their spouses Joseph, Jay, and Christopher and their children; Pilar, Lauren, Johnathan, Julia, Kenneth, Jared, and Alexandra. Candy was born in Jersey City where he developed a mass of relationships throughout his life. He was a Hoboken resident for the past 13 years. William was a daily communicant at St. Francis Church in Hoboken. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
