HOBOKEN AND JERSEY CITY -- School officials have announced that the Hoboken Charter School students displaced by a fire last Thursday will return to classes on Tuesday Sept 18. The decision was made Wednesday night during a board meeting to use St. Anne's School Building at 255 Congress St. in Jersey City Heights as the interim space.
The recommendation for the space came from Executive Director/K08 Principal Deirdra Grode, with nearly 100 parents and teachers in attendance.
St. Anne's School building is a former Catholic School that shut down earlier this year due to declining enrollment. A number of details are still being worked out, including bussing for students to the new location.
“We’ve been working around the clock to locate appropriate space that would enable us to quickly restore operations without compromising the integrity of our educational program and allow us to keep the K-8 students together in a unified environment,” said Ms. Grode.
The cause of last week's fire is still undetermined.
