Dear Editor:

On Monday night I attended the Education Forum that was sponsored by State Senator Sandra Cunningham at the New Jersey City University. And yes I remembered going to events there when it was called “Teacher’s College.” Last night event had the NJ State Commissioner Chris Cerf as the main speaker who engaged in open dialect with parents, teachers, and concerned residents. This event was attended by several elected officials including Councilman Steven Fulop, Assemblyman Charlie Mainor, Assemblyman Sean Connors, and about five of our elected Jersey City School Board Members. This meeting seemed to attract the attention of various branches of government which could help our children in many ways. As a parent I was glad to see.

What did disturb me was that after the elected officials were introduced, Councilman Fulop who was in the rear left the meeting. I have to wonder, after reading all about his concerns for education in our city, what was more important that night? He takes credit for supporting board members who appoint an out of towner to our most precious seat in the education process. He also boasts that our children are his major concern. Are they really? I think Councilman Fulop talks out of two sides of his mouth. I would have loved for him to listen to the many concerns that were brought up publically and privately after the meeting. But I guess that would require his time.

The one thing that Councilman Fulop is capable of doing is “walking out.”

Joseph Wares
