Funeral mass was offered Nov. 21 at St. Anne’s Church, Jersey City, for Michael V. Maffei, 89, a lifelong resident of Jersey City. He passed away Nov. 18. Michael along with his wife raised nine children all of whom he afforded a Catholic Elementary and High School education. He was a devout parishioner of St. Anne’s Parish and School and a Cub Scout Master and member of the Holy Name Society. He was an active participant in the Nelson Avenue Block Association. Michael was a graduate of St. Peter’s College, Jersey City and a retired purchasing agent for Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, Hoboken. Michael served in the U.S. Army during WWII, stationed in Greenland. Michael was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Rosemary C. Maffei, RN (Director of Nursing for the Lutheran Home, Jersey City); his parents Peter and Rose and his brother Peter Maffei. He is survived by his children Madeline Maffei, Patricia MaffeiDallo, Robert Maffei, Noreen McNaught, Peter Maffei, Paul Maffei, Dr. Rosemarie Evans, Michael Maffei, Anglela Maffei and their spouses; also survived by 10 grandchildren, many cousins, his brother in law Neal Hummerstone and wife Greta; and his lifelong friend Lou Forter and his loyal pets. Services arranged by the Riotto Funeral Home, Jersey City.
