HOBOKEN -- Mayor Dawn Zimmer gave a press conference Wednesday afternoon in which she addressed the series of water main breaks that plagued the city last week (see related links below). She said that an agreement between the city and United Water signed during the 1990s was ultimately unfair to the city, because it doesn't provide for the utility to put in enough improvements to the infrastructure.
She said that the city needs to get out of the agreement.
Meanwhile, news reports said that the water main that was struck on 14th Street by a construction worker Thursday morning was not properly marked. It resulted in most of the city losing water.
