Sitting atop in the Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Floor Hockey Jr. Division, the (2-0) Bruins got all they could handle from the (0-2) Blackhawks. The game started with the Bruins racing out to a 2-goal lead as Ryan Griffin blasted in two shots off assists from Alejandro Cifuentes and Matt Miceli. The Blackhawks chipped away, making it 2-1 when Declan McCormick hit the bulls eye on his first shot of the season as Michael Egan picked up an assist. After eight scoreless minutes, the Bruins’ Ryan “Iron” Griffin battled his way up court for two more goals, once again assisted by Cifuentes and Miceli. Down 4-1, the Blackhawks rallied back with Logan Mazziota and Marcelino firing in goals making it a 4-3 game. With their lead fading, the Bruins scoring machine, Ryan Griffin, outdueled the Blackhawks’ defense to notch his fifth goal of the bout as Cifuentes picked up his third assist. Leading 5-3, the Bruins were quickly reeled back in as the Hawks’ Declan McCormick continued to shine in his debut by netting his second goal, this time off an assist from Alexandra Soliman. Holding a slim 5-4 lead, the Bruins’ defense perked up, as goalie, Victor Mendolaro, set his sights on staying undefeated while defenseman Thomas Canela cleared the defensive zone. The Blackhawks’ defense also dug in as Harsh Easwar recorded 10 saves, but in the end the Bruins captured the victory as Ryan Griffin’s sixth goal of the game clinched the Bruins’ 6-4 victory.
