“In the heart of Hudson County, close to Newark Bay, stands the school we all love dearly, Alma Mater, HFA.”
Holy Family Academy opened its doors in 1925 under the auspices of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Chestnut Hill, PA. The sisters believed that education should include more than academics and athletics. Holy Family “girls” were taught the tenets of social justice: equality, solidarity, and human rights. Our graduates are teachers, nurses, physicians, lawyers, and business-women. Their contributions are varied and wide-ranging. Their impact on Bayonne, Hudson County, and on the national level has been enormous. From the good sisters of St. Joseph (sometimes irreverently called “penguins”) we “gleaned” knowledge and “harvested” good people skills. Sincerest thanks to Sisters Charles Marie, Alma Rosarii, Ignatius Loyola, Catherine Counsilii, James Anita, and Mary Philothea. They gave us art, music, basketball, theater, Latin, earth worms, and math. Holy Family will close in June, 2013 after 88 glorious years of proms, May crownings, intramural basketball, commencements, and community service. Holy Family has had a good run. Respice Finem … look to the end and thank you!
