JERSEY CITY – The city opened its public pools and sprinklers last weekend, ahead of the Memorial Day holiday. But with all the chilly weather and water coming down from the sky in the form of rain, a pool was probably the last place most people wanted to be.
But that was then, this is now. This weekend the Hudson County area is expected to have much warmer weather with temps in the 80s.
So, for anyone who wants to cool off, courtesy of Jersey City’s Department of Recreation and the Department of Public Works’ Division of Parks and Forestry, here is the list of public pools and sprinklers where you can chill out:
The Pavonia Pool (at West Side and Pavonia avenues) will be open Monday through Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Lafayette Pool and Aquatic Center (at Johnson and Pacific avenues) will be open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. for adult/lap swim only. Open swim will be allowed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Hours at these two pools will be extended after the conclusion of the school year later this month.
Regular hours at the pool at Pershing Field (at 201 Central Ave.) are from noon to 4 p.m.
Municipal sprinklers can be found in the following city parks:
Dr. Lena Edwards Park (325 Johnston Ave.)
Arlington Park (785 Grand St.)
Audubon Park (103-129 Bergen Ave
Rev. Ercel Webb/Lafayette Park (Maple Street and Van Horne Avenue)
LaPointe Park (90-92 Dekalb Ave.)
Country Village Park (30 Sycamore Rd.)
Pershing Field Park – Summit Avenue and Pershing Plaza
Roberto Clemente Park (8th Street and Brunswick Street)
Columbia Park (Bartholdi Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard)
Bayside Park (480 Garfield Ave.)
Hamilton Park (8th St. and 9th St. and Hamilton Place)
Muhammad Ali Park (Van Nostrand Avenue, between MLK Drive and Ocean Avenue)
The city’s sprinklers are open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting.
While these facilities are open to the public, the intended use is to provide kids a supervised way to cool off and play during the summer months. The pools and sprinklers will be open through Labor Day.
