On June 17 at 1:12 p.m. the Bayonne Fire Department responded to the southbound lane of Route 440, in the area of the City Line/Turnpike Overpass for a report of an overturned tractor-trailer. Firefighters were confronted with a tractor-trailer that had flipped onto its side, pinning the driver within the cab wreckage. Firefighters worked furiously for a prolonged period of time, using hydraulic cutting and spreading equipment, before finally freeing the victim from the cab. Paramedics and EMTs worked with the firefighters, providing advanced medical treatment for the badly injured victim. The truck was reportedly carrying a cargo of bathroom tissue at the time of the incident. The driver was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. Two firefighters were treated for exhaustion at Bayonne Medical Center.
City to issue easement for Bayonne Bridge construction
The City Council at its June 19 meeting is expected to approve an easement for the use of West 2nd Street between JFK Boulevard and Avenue A for storage and other work related to the raising of the roadway on the Bayonne Bridge.
Maloney and Syed reappointed to county Mental Health Board
At the June 13 meeting, the Hudson County Board of Freeholders voted to reappoint Mary Maloney of Bayonne and Dr. Saquiba Syed of Jersey City to the Hudson County Mental Health Boards. Maloney’s term expires on June 30, 2016. Syed’s term ends on June 30, 2015.
