After leading several recent public protests against this year’s tax increase in West New York, Dr. Felix Roque said he filed a letter of intent to recall Mayor Sal Vega Thursday.

“They filed a letter of intent, which is the first step,” said Vega on Friday. “That has to be reviewed and then, it is up to them to take any additional steps.” He added that he is prepared to participate in the next regularly scheduled election in 2011.

“The recall is a waste of taxpayers’ money,” said Vega. “The election pattern calls for an election in 2011, and that’s what I expect will be the election, and that’s when candidates can choose to run.”

What evidence do we have that Dr. Roque knows how to manage a city or cut a city budget...considering that until a few months ago no one ever herad of him at city meetings, he never got involved and never protested any spending decisions or even the budget when it was publicized at a meeting last year? Now all of a sudden he thinks it's urgent that he come into office - what evidence do we have that this man knows how to do anything any better than the existing mayor???

If he was so concerned why didn't he ever offer any tax cutting suggestions, criticism, even a concern for the last few years while this was building? It didn't happen overnight. I haven't read a letter to the editor from him, or heard a peep out of him. So SantaClara...where was Roque?????

The recall will save tax payers a lot of money. Look at it this way. Mr. Vega has placed WNY in a 15.7 millions deficit in less than two years. The average spenditure is $654K per month. Can we afford to keep him two more years. Also, his lack of leadership allowed the state to take over. What kind of a leader is this? He abondoned the ship and we need the Doctor Roque, a military man to heal the Town of West New York.
