Operative word is 'Pride' in your city

Dear Editor: On behalf of the entire Environment Committee of Hoboken, we would like to loudly applaud the efforts of the Can It! campaign recently launched by the City of Hoboken. Over the years, in our informal polls of Hoboken residents, trash and garbage pollution issues consistently appear at or near the top of priorities expressed by concerned Hobokenites. We are working closely with the Environmental Services Department to create incentives for neighborhoods and block associations. Be sure to look out for our future endeavors! Your street could win! However, we seriously hope that the incentive of a future tree planting on your block will not be the only reason you support Can It! Many of us, as civic volunteers and employees, have spent years trying to bring Hoboken to its optimal, deserving cityscape and hygiene. Disrespect of our city in these aspects is a demeaning insult to us all. To borrow from our school's motto: Take Pride!, and use your head before you litter. Wouldn't you rather that city employees be working at planting trees and maintaining playgrounds, rather than spending entire days picking up coffee containers and candy wrappers? For a further show of your support, there are buttons, bumper stickers and informative pamphlets available. Call Environment Services to order them at 420-2277, or stop by the Environment Committee of Hoboken's booth at the Farmers' Market, opening Tuesday, June 27. Let's work together to make and keep Hoboken clean and green! Please remember to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle - Can It!, too. Environment Committee of Hoboken
