Dear Editor: I would like to issue a public apology for the faux bait and switch dinner party and county charade that was conducted and contrived on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Hoboken Bistro. Some member of the public were fraudulently duped into believing that they were invited to a dinner party in lush surroundings to hear a sober historical presentation on collected information on the upcoming OpSail2000, as it refers to Hoboken, past and present. My name was listed as a speaker and I came well documented and prepared. I was removed and replaced by Janiszewski, who weaved his supporters into speaking spots and lionized his county friends and supporters and gave out diplomas to the same for the upcoming OpSail2000. Diplomas!? It is true that the tall ships have left San Juan, Puerto Rico and are headed here for July 4th, and that four million people are expected in our area for the fireworks and festivities. I was to bring up the fact that the entire tall ship flotilla and arrangements could be viewed on Governor Whitman's home page and on computers under OpSail2000 or at the NBC web page at http://www.msnbc.com/local/wnbc/830926.asp, and other pertinent Hoboken matters. The Hoboken police and fire personnel who spoke on how they were preparing for the event provided some solid sober representation, but their words were diminised by the obvious electioneering and posturing of county executives, who insisted that they are expanding their "interest" in Hoboken, through their supporters in City Hall, namely Mr. Soares and Kenny who also received "diplomas." I fail to understand this sudden influx of county politicians, inebriated with enthusiasm for each other and glowing with accolades for themselves, reminiscent of radioactive lighthouses, becoming beacons of OpSail on the Hoboken side of the river or illuminating anyone else but themselves. Historically, or otherwise! Margaret O'Brien
