Dear Editor:

A state treasure is once again being assaulted by commercial interests. Liberty State Park Development Corporation and Jersey City Mayor Schundler are pushing a plan to develop a Commercial Waterpark in the park. This would severely restrict public access to the park on summer weekends when people from all over the world are visiting this jewel to take in the incomparable views and visit our national treasures.

With most of the interior of the park going to be protected and restored as a natural area, the fight is over the interior's perimeter buffer land, and the challenge is to create the best plan for the context of the park's "Big Picture." I urge all of you who read this letter to support a "Free and Green Open Space Perimeter Buffer Plan." This area should be reserved for unstructured recreation. There should also be a perimeter multi-use path and free features in the rest of the buffer land.
