As I talk with people throughout our community, I hear countless stories where health related problems might have been avoided with early detection and better awareness.
That is why I am bringing health care experts for a Women's Health Resources Day to give the women in our area the information and resources they need to protect their health. The event will be on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hackensack Civic Center. The day will feature health care professionals and advocates discussing the health care needs of women.
I have fought in Congress to provide women with the programs to meet their physical and mental health needs, such as demanding that HMOs allow women direct access to OB-GYN physicians and by getting increases in funding to research breast cancer and osteoporosis. I hope that each participant will leave the day with new knowledge that will prolong her life and the lives of her loved ones.
Among the organizations scheduled to attend are: Hackensack University Medical Center, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, New Jersey Family Care, Bergen County Division of Senior Services, Bergen County Office of Children, Planned Parenthood of Greater Northern New Jersey Inc.., Shelter Our Sisters, Bergen County Rape Crisis Center, Alternatives to Domestic Violence and Gilda's Club. Members of the New York Power, from the new WUSA professional women's soccer league, will also be on hand during the "Wellness" panel to discuss how they keep in shape.
I hope that each participant will leave the day with the new knowledge that will prolong her life and the lives of her loved ones. Please call my office at 646-0808 to learn more about the day and about ways to protect your health.
