Dear Editor:

On December 27, the Court staff had the unfortunate experience of being subject to a terrorist hoax. The nature of the hoax was such that my staff was quarantined, taken to the hospital, decontaminated and then medically treated. On this day, as an unexposed outsider, I had the privilege of seeing great Hoboken people at work. The response of Mayor David Roberts, the Hoboken Health Department, Hoboken Fire Department, Emergency Management personnel, Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corp and the Hoboken Police Department was outstanding. In addition, Business Administrator Laurie Cotter stayed with me, in the cold, until it was determined that the staff should be taken to the hospital. Upon arrival at St. Mary Hospital, the hospital medical staff, hospital executive staff and security worked diligently to quell fears and administer treatment. They even fed us!

All in all, we have been told by the Health Department that the staff was not exposed to harmful agents. For this I am very, very grateful. I have a phenomenal staff of which I am very proud. Their handling of this unpleasant and frightening experience was an example of their character, strength and humor. Their ability, and the ability of those who helped us on December 27, to do their jobs in spite of the situations created by the frightening world we live in, should be applauded.

I applaud, respect and am truly grateful for all those I came in contact with on December 27. As was exhibited on September 11, and again on December 27, the residents of this city should feel secure in the knowledge that in times of need your City and County employees will be there to help.

Once again, thank you. Honorable Kimberly Glatt
Hoboken Municipal Court
