I recognize a good project when I see it

Dear Editor:

Many thanks to Dr. Michael Bruno for conducting a very engaging and informative tour for Hoboken residents of the Davidson Laboratory at Stevens Institute on Saturday, June 8. The tour confirmed to me that Stevens' proposed Center for Maritime Systems would be a terrific addition to the waterfront.

The Center would continue the Laboratory's important work in boat design, environmental studies and harbor safety and security, all in a much more sensible place, by the water itself. Contrary to what others may be saying, the Center would have open space for the public, classroom space for students and a dock for visiting research vessels, and it would not interrupt the continuous walkway around the waterfront. In my view, a waterfront must have a proper mix of activities. The Center is an important element in keeping our waterfront interesting and alive.

As a member of the Historic Hudson Street Coalition, I have opposed other Stevens' projects, such as the 8th and Hudson athletic field complex. However, I believe that you need to recognize a good project when you see it. I am an avid supporter of this one.
