A 22-minute educational video produced by the North Hudson Sewerage Authority, titled "H2O TV: Your Wastewater System and You," has won the international "Communicator Award for Distinction" and the Association for Environmental Authorities "WAVE Award" for Public Education.
Announcement of the awards was made by Richard J. Wolff, Chairman of the NHSA, who said that the video was produced in conjunction with an 11-minute animated video supplied by the Water Federation of America. The animated portion describes the water cycle process, while the 11-minute version produced by the Authority shows in actual detail the operation of the North Hudson Sewerage Plant, which services the four communities of Hoboken, Union City, Weehawken and West New York. The video was produced in both English and Spanish versions.
According to Wolff, the video will be distributed this fall to all schools in the four communities and is part of the Authority's education and public outreach program. The Authority also conducts an annual summer high school intern program and guided tours throughout the year, as well as producing a bi-annual report and periodic newsletters.
"The Authority and all the Commissioners are proud and honored to have received these awards," said Wolff. "In the case of the Communicator Award, based in Arlington, Texas, only 18 percent received the Award of Distinction out of 3,401 entries from 47 states, the District of Columbia and 11 other counties. The Award is awarded for projects that exceed industry standards in production or communication skills."
The "WAVE Award" is a peer group award presented by the Association of Environmental Authorities based in New Jersey. This was the seventh "WAVE Award" won by the North Hudson Sewerage Authority, dating back to 1994. It previously won awards for its High School Intern Program (twice), Outstanding Floatables Campaign, Outstanding Competitive Example, Outstanding Annual Report, and Outstanding Communications. The video was produced for the Authority by its media consultant, Meadowlands Associates, Inc. of Jersey City.
