Did some kind of political pay-back lead Mayor Roberts to endorse developer Frank Raia's candidacy for school board? Mr. Raia has long been famous for converting Hoboken's old "School No. 5" into the posh Citadel apartments, where he now resides. He's even been heard to brag about how he "lives in (his) old classroom." Is this the kind of interest in schools that parents want from our Board of Ed?
The other two members of the mayor-backed slate took the trouble to attend the League of Women Voters' March 31st school board candidates' forum to introduce themselves to, and answer questions posed by, members of the public. It's too bad that Mr. Raia chose to ignore that event. Somebody could have asked him if Hoboken United's slate plans to use a slogan like "Convert Classrooms Into Condos!"
