Bergen LEADS, Bergen County’s premier civic leadership program, has begun its 2013-2014 seminar year. The program, sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Bergen County, prepares leaders to tackle the tough challenges facing Bergen County today and in the future. Call 201-489-9454 or visit for more information.

A local resident who is a member of the 2013-2014 Bergen LEADS Class is Shoum Chakravarti of Secaucus.

Shoum is excited to be a part of the Bergen LEADS Class of 2014. Shoum was raised in the Meadowlands region and after living and working across the globe, he recently decided to return home and settling in Secaucus. After studying economics in college, he worked for a major international consulting firm, spending time on a range of projects, including a risk analysis for a government-backed mortgage financier and a deal evaluation for a sovereign wealth fund in the Middle East. He then spent a few years working at a venture-backed start-up to help launch a student loan rewards program to help consumers manage their finances and crush their student debt. Currently he is working with Homefront Business Services, a consulting service that aims to help small businesses save money, and help military veterans gain business experience in the process.
