Remember just after 9-11, when the war criminals in Washington warned Americans that from now on - now that we were in a newly-minted 100-year "war on terror" -that they'd better "watch what they say?" Trying to make the people fear their government? But in a democracy it's the opposite: elected leaders should fear the people who elected them. But for a democracy to work the people must know the truth. So it's the role of a free press to nose around and tell us when something smells fishy. But all the media now is owned by only a few powerful men tied to Israel and the Pentagon and the oiligarchy; so while an occasional minnow of truth does slip through the net, the bigger ones are caught by the gills and perish. But fortunately there's C-SPAN, 25 years old, which also has a filter, though with rather larger mesh. Not everyone loves C-SPAN however. The traditional enemies of free speech would love to kill it, just as they would the precious First Amendment guaranteeing free speech, but haven't yet figured out a way. Meanwhile, while they keep scheming, it's the only channel on current events I can watch without shooting the TV, grabbing my machete and running amok.
