Dear Editor:

The Town of Guttenberg's summer recreation program closed another successful year this past Friday with an awards ceremony, dance presentation and youth dance at Anna L. Klein School. Over the past two months, approximately 200 of our children have enjoyed games, arts and crafts, bowling, swimming and creative arts to name just a few of the activities offered. The program keeps our children safe, entertained and engaged during this time off from school and is an invaluable asset to working families.

It was really a pleasure to see the pride on the faces of the children who received awards and as usual, the dance presentation put on by the creative arts students was simply amazing. Congratulations to all of the kids who participated and especially to those who received awards on Friday. I know that we will see many of them return for the fall recreation program which will offer arts and crafts, basketball, baton twirling and dance as well as many other activities. Flyers will be distributed in the coming weeks with the details for registration which begins in September.

Year after year, our summer recreation program is a huge success, due in large part to our Director of Recreation, Mrs. Pat O'Connor. Her tireless commitment to the children of our community should be applauded. Mrs. O'Connor has assembled an outstanding staff: Assistant Director Kenny Martoral; Maria Vargas, who oversees the creative arts program; Kelvin Perdomo and Nick Naum, who supervised the sports program, as well as a number of coaches and counselors. Congratulations to the entire staff for another job well done!Jennifer L. Credidio
Councilwoman, Department of Recreation
