I recently heard about last week's announcement made by several R&B and Hip-Hop musicians who have decided to follow suit by recording an anti-Bush version of a 1976 classic hit entitled, "Wake Up Everybody". "Babyface" Edmunds, Missy Elliot, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Russell Simmons, JC Chasez, the Backstreet Boys, Chingy, Wyclef Jean, Eve, Ashanti, Jadakiss and even actress Minnie Driver have combined their talents in a new recording of the Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes song.
Smart growth need not be synonymous with slow growth, which is the point of the new fast-track law requiring that complete environmental permit applications be ruled upon within 45 days of receipt. As we see it, the fast-track law provides New Jersey with a balanced way to ensure jobs for future generations.
This tune was originally recorded and used by the Democratic party when Jimmy Carter was running for president to generate support from the black community; this new version produced by Edmunds is being created in a concerted effort to defeat President George W. Bush in November.
"Babyface" is quoted as stated, "This song is the spirit of the country, and all these artists have the will to change it, empower the young voters and create a movement for people to vote and change the current administration." Chang it to what? Bush inherited a recession from the previous administration (it began two months before he took office. Even he could not screw things up that fast!!)
This liberal activist singer/producer believes his remake of "Wake Up Everybody" will make the difference for Kerry against Bush. Please note that he cannot say anything positive that Kerry could do for us except continue the legacy of Gov. McGreevey and raise our state taxes even more.
And our MissDemeanor, Missy Elliot urges listeners in a rap that "everybody white or black...You better go and vote and get up off your back", claiming in the lyrics that the world has changed for the worse since Bush was elected president in 2000.
"The world has changed so very much from what it used to be," the new lyrics state. "There's so much hatred, war and poverty."
Not here in America my dear. Bush has donated more to fight the spread of AIDS in Africa than all the other countries put together; our unemployment rates are less than they were four years ago; instead of fighting terrorism here, we are fighting on their turf. Not to mention, for the first time, we are seeing Iraqi women at the Olympics.
It was not during Bush's watch that one million Rawandans were murdered. Where was the UN when their cries came begging for help? Where was the outrage of the Democratic Party then? Missy E, where were you then? Living in the greatest, most serving, giving country the world has ever known, that's where.
Sorry Missy and company. Although I do love listening to your joints and I do applaud your "get out the vote", please get your facts straight when you are trying to influence our youth. Be grateful for a country that has given you voice to dissent and even complain while making millions promoting a media that proclaims a person's value comes from how many bullets they've taken, how much time they have served (and I don't mean in public office) or how many sex partners they've had.
