Dear Editor:

Upon my retirement, I would like to publicly thank Mayor David Roberts on behalf of all the senior citizens who have passed through my office at the city's Senior Citizen Division for the past 31 years.

You are the sixth mayor who I have had the pleasure of serving during my career as Director of the Senior Citizen Program for the city. Over that time, I had the opportunity to help the greatest people in the world, Hoboken residents. I am very proud of the fact that my staff and I were able to help so many people.

These past three years have been exceptional. Working on a daily basis with Mayor Roberts and my Director, Carmelo G. Garcia, have been exceptional. Over this period, senior programs have been greatly enhanced and expanded to keep seniors active and alert. Our dance and speakers programs have proven to be a success. We have begun a free dental program, and those interested can obtain information by calling (201) 420-2214.

Additionally, I would like to thank Councilman Ruben Ramos, Jr. who has served on the council as a catalyst for advancing this cause with his tireless work and dedication.

Again, I have immensely enjoyed my 31 years of serving our city's senior citizens and appreciate our Mayor Roberts support of our programs and activities.

Vinnie Barbo
Senior Citizen Director, retired
