Isn't it ironic, don't you think?

According to police reports, a man who had been admitted to St. Mary Hospital was leaving through the Third Street exit. According to police, the man was not satisfied with the service he received at the hospital, so he left but did not sign a hospital waiver slip. As he tried to leave, a security guard from the hospital grabbed the man around the waist and carried him into the elevator and to the sixth floor, where he signed a waiver to leave the hospital, according to police. Soon after leaving, the man felt some pain in his rib area. He then went to Meadowview Hospital in Secaucus, where he was given an x-ray, according to police reports. The exam showed that he has suffered a broken rib, police said.

Later, he went to police headquarter to file charges against the guard, who was charged with simple assault, said police. The security guard was identified by police as a Bayonne resident.

Elderly woman foils scammers

An 82-year-old woman was returning to her Bloomfield Street home on July 13 when she noticed a strange woman standing on her stoop. According to police reports, the stranger asked if the woman would hold a package for a neighbor.

The woman refused, and after a brief conversation, the stranger asked if the woman lived alone or if there was anyone else in the apartment.

The elderly woman quickly said that she would not answer any more questions and slammed and locked the door.

According to police reports, days later, the woman read in the Reporter's police beat about a similar incident that had happened the same day. In that incident, $1,400 was taken from an elderly man after he invited two women into his home. In that case, the women entered the apartment under the guise that they wanted to help the man carry his groceries up the steps. Police are still investigating the incidents.

Boxcutter allegedly in man's back pocket

On July 27, police were called to the scene of a fight near the corner of Fourth and Jackson streets. There they found Luis Pineiro of Jersey City, who witnesses told police had allegedly participated in the fight.

When police searched Pineiro, they allegedly found a boxcutter in his back pocket. Police told Pineiro that they were putting him under arrest. According to police reports, Pineiro resisted, but was finally arrested. He was charged with disorderly conduct, possession of a weapon, and because they were on the Hoboken Housing Authority's property, trespassing, police said.
