The current Bookmobile has been bringing the joy of reading to Jersey City's youth since 1954 and, according to the foundation, is out-of-date by today's standards. Plans call for a new, ADA-accessible Bookmobile, but the state-of-the-art vehicle carries a hefty price tag.
The foundation hopes to raise enough funds between two events this fall: a $100-a-plate fundraising gala and silent auction that took place in Casino-in-the-Park on Sept. 15, 2005, and participation in Newport Centre's upcoming "Simon Evening of Giving" event on Nov. 20, 2005.
The library is expected to be one of more than 30 local not-for-profit organizations joining the program, which will raise funds through $10 tickets that allow access to the mall's ticketholder-only evening featuring exclusive store discounts throughout the mall, family entertainment and food sampling.
Seven dollars of each ticket sold through the library will go to the Bookmobile fund.
For information on how to purchase tickets for the Evening of Giving, contact Christine Macatangay at Newport Centre at (201) 626-2078, extension 12.
