Dear Editor:

As a former high school and vocational school educator for more than a decade, I would like to commend Mayor David Roberts for his ongoing initiative to improve public education through a partnership with the public and private sectors.

Today, as a business manager, I can see the results of exposing high school children to advanced technology programs and private sector internships to advance their future goals beyond their school years.

I applaud companies like Wiley & Sons that have offered their assistance in our schools. Equally the efforts of Mayor Roberts deserves accolades for this five-year effort to forge an outstanding alliance with Stevens Institute to greatly upgrade curriculum.

The most recent forum with Dr. William Librera of Rutgers to chart a long-term vision for our schools utilizing public input is another step in the right direction. Our public schools are good and certainly can be better.

Through the use of these creative programs, Hoboken has the potential to be an urban educational model throughout the state and region.
