Ladies, don't mess up what could be a cute new look like layered tanks or body hugging knits with ugly strap lines! Before you buy one new thing this fall - make sure your undergarments fit the outerwear.
No more back bulge
One area that often gets overlooked when women are dressing to impress - is the back view. Even if you are all tucked in up front, you might be exposing more than you want to in the back. I'm talking about the dreaded back rolls that can appear anywhere from beneath the armpits to below the bra strap line. This can even happen to very thin women who are wearing an improperly fitting bra. One solution is to skip the bra completely, which can work for some women or styles. Yet sometimes a girl needs a little more support.
One product that promises support and a seamless look is "Sassybax." Here at the Current, several female staff members test-drove the "Sassybax Torso Trim" to see if it would live up to its promise of a smooth sleek back view. The product is sold at Tia's Place in Jersey City, among other places.
The test run
Sassybax is made with a blend of micro-fiber nylon and spandex. It is woven in the round so it has no seams or uncomfortable hardware that can poke you in odd places. The sizing is simple from small to X-large. For our test, we had staffers with all different shapes take the test (32C, 34B, 36D). Since it is seamless, it is designed to be stepped into, which did feel a little odd at first. Yet the material is soft and breathable and it was nice to not get poked by hooks.
Although the material is definitely pulling stuff in, it was remarkably comfortable. One staffer (staffer "C") remarked, "It tucked me in places I didn't know could be tucked!" The dreaded strap slip is non-existent with this product. Once on, it doesn't move.
Another staffer (staffer "D") said, "It feels like a body glove."
Neither lacy looking or racy, it is simply styled to look like a tank top and comes in colors: black, white or nude. Was it seamless? In our informal staff poll, the consensus was yes. There are no back lines with the "torso trim" for all sizes.
Another staffer (staffer "B") remarked, "It feels a little like wearing a bathing suit." But while the Current staff might not be used to being that covered up, it was seamless under a variety of tops. Probably not the best choice for date night, as there are sexier styles on the market - but it works great for every day.
The Sassybax promise
The Sassybax collection was created by Amanda Kennedy in 2004 as a way for women to feel good about their body image and improve her shape no matter what the woman's size.
There are six different styles to choose from including: racerbax bralette (sports bra), sassybax underwire bandeaux (strapless), sassybax torso trim with or without underwire (like a camisole), and the sassybax bralette with or without underwire (regular bra).
As for a woman's bottom line, that is an issue for another time. Let's just say that we hope you're all familiar with the thong.
Sassybax is available at Tia's Place, 277 Grove St., in Jersey City. For more information, call (201) 451-9358 or visit: www.sassybax.com.
