Quality of life in the Heights is not what it used to be

Dear Editor:

After attending several community meetings in Jersey City Heights and having lived here for over five years, I am sad to say that the quality of life is not what it once was. It seems as though serious crime has markedly increased in the Heights over the last few months, and people are scared. Unfortunately, because of inadequate resources, the Police are at a disadvantage and are doing what they can. I don't understanding why our government officials (mayor and councilpersons) are doing very little, if anything, to try and rectify this problem. We need more resources so that the Police will be able to do their job. What will it take before our government officials feel our pain. Many of our government officials live in the Heights (you think it will be safe.)

To say it succinctly, government officials, please get off of your rear ends and provide the Police with the resources they need to do the job of protecting and serving, so that Jersey City Heights can once again be the neighborhood it used to be where folks are not afraid to go out for fear of becoming crime victims. We pay our taxes, and we have a right to our services, including safety and security.

Cordially,
Deborah McWilliams
