Dear Editor:

Over 10 years ago Central Avenue received a streetscape facelift which included 46 new garbage receptacles. Until recently many of these containers were victims of Jersey City's tough urban environment. For the last three years shoppers, local residents, as well as business owners have complained about this issue and the CASID relayed the message to elected officials and corresponding city departments. Through our efforts along with the Department of Public Works we were able to savage many of these garbage receptacle with some maintenance work. Despite our best efforts, however, 18 garbage receptacles remained in unacceptable conditions causing continued eyesores.

We are pleased to announced in that working with our elected officials and the Urban Enterprise Zone, there has been an installation of 18 garbage containers along Central Avenue. These much-needed containers could not have come at a better time, than to begin the New Year.

On behalf of its 450 members, the CASID would like to thank Councilman-at-Large Peter Brennan; Councilman, Ward D, William Gaughan; Eugene Nelson CEO, JC EDC; Roberta Farber, Director, JC UEZ, John Yurchak, Director, DPW and Robert Hadley Director, Division of Parks & Forestry. Their collaborative effort to allocate time and resources thereby helping to improve the quality of life in Jersey City is always appreciated.

Sincerely,
President Michael Yun and Board of Directors
Central Ave. SID Management Corp.
